At The Music School of Delaware, cost should never prevent a student from experiencing the joy of music. We are proud to offer scholarships and financial aid programs that make lessons, classes, and ensembles more affordable for families. Funds are limited and awarded as applications are received, so we encourage you to apply early.

Tuition Assistance Program

Mary Ellen Northrop Endowed Fund for Music Education
This endowed fund provides significant tuition support for eligible school-aged students. It was established to honor the wishes of its donor and follows specific guidelines:
- Household income of $150,000 or less
- Student must be a U.S. citizen
- Cannot attend a charter school
- Must have a permanent U.S. address
- Guitar and related instruments are excluded
Awards
- First year: up to 100% tuition coverage (maximum $5,000)
- Second year: up to 50% tuition coverage (maximum $2,500)
Tuition Assistance Program
Our general Tuition Assistance Program is open to all students with demonstrated financial need, regardless of age, instrument, or school type.
- Covers 10% to 100% of tuition costs depending on income and household size
- May be applied to up to three enrollments per academic year and summer session
- Requires a new application each year
Families are notified of decisions within 10 business days

What is the difference between Tuition Assistance and the Northrop Endowed Fund?
Tuition Assistance is open to any student who demonstrates financial need, regardless of instrument, age, or school type. The Northrop Endowed Fund is donor-restricted and only available to school-aged students who meet specific eligibility criteria.

Do I need to complete a separate application for each student?
Yes. A separate application must be submitted for each individual student seeking financial aid or Northrop grant funds, even within the same household.
When can I apply?
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until all funds are awarded for the year.
