18 years and up, must have completed Musicianship for Adults III | With a focus on advanced analysis and composition, this course covers musical form (binary, ternary, sonata, rondo), late 19th-century chromatic harmony, Impressionism, 20th-century post-tonal theory (atonal music and set theory, 12-tone serialism), and topics in 20th- and 21st-century music. Students develop aural skills with sight singing and melodic/harmonic dictation exercises. Materials: Kostka, Payne, and Almén ‘Tonal Harmony’, 7th edition.
